At present ECORYS-NEI is involved in the implementation of the OECD project Background report on the Russian Steel sector: Sector structure and government policies.

The requested study is to serve as a background report for the discussions between Russia and the OECD regarding OECD enlargement to include Russia.

 

The goals of this study are twofold:

• Provide an overview of the Russian steel and related raw materials industries: structure, key players, trends in production, capacity, consumption and trade, industry prospects and challenges;
• Provide an overview of government policies towards steel and raw materials (trade, investment measures and subsidies) – determining a general sense of how open Russia’s economy in this sector is.

The project focus is on: investment promotion, assistance to ailing enterprises, competition and trade distorting measures, and barriers to foreign investment in the steel sector.
